Meditation (Dhyan) means -

Meditation helps to purify the mind of its basic instincts so that one begin to manifest the true human qualities of universal goodwill, kindness, sympathy, tolerance, humility, equanimity and simultaneously gain an insight into the true nature and purpose of the human existence.
'Dhyan'(meditation) is the study of deep concentration, calmness and tranquility of the mind. It is the study of attaining complete control over one’s mind.
One thing has to be remembered about meditation; it is a long journey and there is no shortcut. Anyone who says there is a shortcut is befooling you.
It is a long journey everything comes gradually and at its appointed hour. The change is very deep and is achieved after many lives - many lives of routine habits, thinking, desiring. The patience is a small price to pay for what you receive.
